Ajmer rape case involved the serial gang rape and blackmailing of over one hundred school and college girls in Ajmer , Rajasthan . During 1992, a group of youths led by criminals Farooq and Nafees Chishti used to lure victims to remote areas or farmhouses and gang-rape them there. Apart from this, they used to blackmail those girls by taking nude photographs so that they could keep their mouth shut. [1] The story of this scandal came to light with an article published by a local newspaper, Daily Navjyoti , which detailed the incidents of the crimes and showed some pictures taken by the rapists. At the same time the police started investigating this incident. In which it has been told that the local authorities were aware of these incidents till a year ago, but they refrained from taking legal action. [2] Eighteen serial offenders were charged in court in September 1992, and the first eight to stand trial were sentenced to life imprisonment. However, four of them were later acquitted by the Rajasthan High Court in 2001. [3] In 2007, a fast track court in Ajmer convicted Farooq Chishti, but in 2013 the High Court released him on time.
